The Learning Curve: New Blocks Week of August 7th

Whew – I have never done so many Dear Jane blocks in one season and it’s amazing how much I’m learning by pushing myself to figure them out, one after another.  They’re like little puzzles, and much more satisfying than sudoku or anagrams.  However, I’m still tiptoeing around the ones that require hand-piecing.  Does anyone have a magic potion to make me fall in love with hand-piecing?  If I can find a way to applique or paper-piece a block, I always take that route — although C-7 nearly did me in.

Thanks so much to Mary Cargill for another four exquisite blocks!  A-3, A-8, B-2, and B-3.

Looking forward to next week:  I’ll bring all the blocks I have to Monday’s evening class this month, and the Friday classes if I can swing it.

I’m also updating the Finished & Pending  and Quilt Layout pages tonight, so you can see how much we have done!!

Switching Modes

So, after a few weeks of applique, I’m going to mix it up a bit with some foundation piecing.  (There is a method to the madness, since Week 3 of Dear Jane at CQ is going to be about foundation piecing – might as well get warmed up!!).  Also, I’ve updated all the pages, and we have a lot more squares volunteered at this point!

Here are my three latest finished blocks:

Block Update, July 3rd

Driving round-trip to Rochester and then over to Boston to drop kids at the camp bus and airport left little time for posting, so here are the last week’s additions – now that I have time to breathe again.  Have two more almost done, but it’s raining like crazy here at the lake, so I can’t photograph and our fireworks will probably be rained out.  On the bright side, that leaves more time to sew!!

Class week

Every month at Dear Jane class, I get a fresh blast of quilting energy!  This month was no different, and it was accompanied by fresh blocks from Janalyn and Helma.  Inspired by everyone’s incredibly generous contributions and commitments, I sewed up three more blocks in two days!   Again, thank you all so, so much for being a part of this project.

Helma Reid: E-5;    Janalyn Martinez:  C-3 and D-3;    Deborah Bingham:  B-7, C-6, D-8

Block Update, June 12th

We received these gorgeous blocks in the past two weeks!  Thank you, again and again, everyone, for all your help with this challenging project.  The school year is finally over for me – classroom packed up, reports written, kids off to their summer vacations –  so I can focus more completely on getting the rest of the blocks done.  Thank you Pamela, Mary, and Diane for the following:

From Pamela Wexler:  C-2, H-11, J-5

From Mary Cargill:  A-2, B-6, D-2, G-6

From Diane King: F-5, G-7, G-8, H-6, L-13

On a Roll!

Thanks to everyone who’s emailed me with which block(s) they would like to do.  I’ve posted all the information to the Blocks Finished & Pending page (see Header tabs).   I’m still aiming to get the blocks done by end of July, so as to have August for assembly and September/October for quilting.

The past two weeks have been insanely busy, so I’m looking forward to my Dear Jane class on Friday when I’ll have time to do a new block!
